My Mum has been overseas for the past month visiting family.
I have a new respect for stay-at-home mothers! They are STRONG, AMAZING, BRAVE AND TOLERANT WOMEN!
The only time I have qualified as such is the brief time I spent with my son after he was born. By his seventh month I was building a steady business shooting weddings and never looked back. With my daughter, 3 years later, I took the day off to have her, and started fielding calls again in hospital the day after. Yikes!
Of course, to each his own. I make no judgment whatsoever on whether women choose to work or stay home or anything in between. As long as Mum is happy, the kids will benefit. My own Mum worked from as far back as I can remember and I don’t feel I suffered one bit. Every kid would love a Mum who greeted them with home made cupcakes and had time to cut and paste and play cowboys and indians, but the reality is, not every parent gets the choice not to work these days. And others (like me) love working and love what they do.
But back to the story … a month with the kids… no break…
I NEED A MEDAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mums who do this every day and love it are SO MUCH more patient than me. Oh dear, the pressure of entertaining two energetic and feisty children nearly broke me.
In the past month we have had misadventures at Heathcote (a lost glove = high drama), an abandoned trip to the movies to see Kung Foo Panda (I was the lady with the screaming toddler… sorry) trips to the museum (the fake dinosaur is umm… not scary), an introduction to the parallel universe that is “Indoor Play Centres”, (shudder) and more walks around the block than I can point a stick at.
And I am now well and truly over it. Very happy to announce Gran arrives home in the next few days and this Mummy is skipping happily back to her regular working schedule. Yee-ha!
We lost a cat and gained a cat. Here’s Charlie. She pretends to be cranky most of the time, but she’s actually a big softy.

Krystal McGee does stunning children’s portraiture. She photographed Ella and a bunch of gorgeous kids a few weeks ago and I got some action shots behind the scenes with my big lens. Krystal’s shots are appearing on her blog and they look gorgeous.

Here’s Krystal at work. I couldn’t believe how willing Ella was to listen to her.

I love this one.

Here’s one I call “Batman Loses It”

I want to call this one “Super Mario Brothers” for some reason…

Here’s my little girl, 2 years ago. She turned 2 last weekend and I can hardly believe it
