“Look, I guarantee that we’ll have tough times. And I guarantee that at some point, one or both of us will want to get out of this thing. But I also guarantee that if I don’t ask you to be mine I’ll regret it for the rest of my life. Because I know in my heart, you’re the only one for me.”

My Mum has been overseas for the past month visiting family.

I have a new respect for stay-at-home mothers! They are STRONG, AMAZING, BRAVE AND TOLERANT WOMEN!

The only time I have qualified as such is the brief time I spent with my son after he was born. By his seventh month I was building a steady business shooting weddings and never looked back. With my daughter, 3 years later, I took the day off to have her, and started fielding calls again in hospital the day after. Yikes!

Of course, to each his own. I make no judgment whatsoever on whether women choose to work or stay home or anything in between. As long as Mum is happy, the kids will benefit. My own Mum worked from as far back as I can remember and I don’t feel I suffered one bit. Every kid would love a Mum who greeted them with home made cupcakes and had time to cut and paste and play cowboys and indians, but the reality is, not every parent gets the choice not to work these days. And others (like me) love working and love what they do.

But back to the story … a month with the kids… no break…
I NEED A MEDAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mums who do this every day and love it are SO MUCH more patient than me. Oh dear, the pressure of entertaining two energetic and feisty children nearly broke me.

In the past month we have had misadventures at Heathcote (a lost glove = high drama), an abandoned trip to the movies to see Kung Foo Panda (I was the lady with the screaming toddler… sorry) trips to the museum (the fake dinosaur is umm… not scary), an introduction to the parallel universe that is “Indoor Play Centres”, (shudder) and more walks around the block than I can point a stick at.

And I am now well and truly over it. Very happy to announce Gran arrives home in the next few days and this Mummy is skipping happily back to her regular working schedule. Yee-ha!

We lost a cat and gained a cat. Here’s Charlie. She pretends to be cranky most of the time, but she’s actually a big softy.

Krystal McGee does stunning children’s portraiture. She photographed Ella and a bunch of gorgeous kids a few weeks ago and I got some action shots behind the scenes with my big lens. Krystal’s shots are appearing on her blog and they look gorgeous.

Here’s Krystal at work. I couldn’t believe how willing Ella was to listen to her.

I love this one.

Here’s one I call “Batman Loses It”

I want to call this one “Super Mario Brothers” for some reason…

Here’s my little girl, 2 years ago. She turned 2 last weekend and I can hardly believe it :)

The awesome Cathrin D’Entremont is once again hosting a “Wedding Workshop” to help brides and grooms make the most of their wedding day plans and budget.

The best thing about this event is that there is NO hard sell involved. Suppliers who share their advice are not trying to sell you anything! Hurrah! The aim behind the workshop is simply to help.

Cathrin has such amazing ideas and she simply lives and breathes weddings.  This is such a fabulous (and fun!) opportunity to pick the brains of some of the best in the biz — and get some great tips on making a wedding day of your dreams.

(Plus did I mention no one is trying to sell you anything??? Not like those bridal expos where you have flyers tucked in every pocket and you somehow end up being signed up for lifetime Tupperware newsletters…)

Ooh and guess what… Natasja is giving a talk on making the most of your photographer and getting fabulously fabulous wedding photos.

(Natasja said I am supposed to be talking too … but I might sit at the bar and drink champagne and heckle her occasionally ;)

Come and join us! Even if you think you already know all there is to know, at least it’s a girly excuse to talk weddings, share a drink, and have a laugh.

I know this blog post is a little later than usual. It has been such a busy week!

Last weekend was the beautiful wedding of Lauren and David. The weather co-operated and it was perfect winters day, with plenty of sunshine.

I love photographing family members watching the ceremony.

Lauren and her Grandmother

The black and red colour scheme at the reception was so striking

Working at this amazing wedding was so much easier with the help of two wonderful photographers.

Krystal McGee was my second shooter and did such a great job. She was awesome and took some truly beautiful images. here she is getting a cool angle in Lauren’s hotel room.

Krystal takes beautiful children’s portraiture. Check out her blog for more work.

“The” Michelle Dean is a great photographer and I loved having her come along to assist. She is an amazing wedding photographer in her own right and she was so great to work with.
